戴壁吟 DAI Bih-In

簡介
戴壁吟 1946 年生於屏東南州，1971 年畢業於國立藝專美術科，早年師從蔡水林與楊三郎。1975 年赴西班牙，隨後定居加泰隆尼亞山村里爾（Llers），1977 年入選國際米羅素描獎。

他對紙的著魔，始於工地裡的一次目擊：五十公斤的水泥重重摔落，包裹它的紙袋竟絲毫未破。旅居西班牙時，面對拮据的生活與新興的環保意識，他走進溪谷自製紙漿，開啟與紙對話的一生。

在傳統繪畫裡，紙是被動承載顏料的「受格」；在戴壁吟手中，紙躍升為擁有生命的「主格」。他浸泡破布與漁網、摔打紙漿，趨濕壓印鐵釘、繩子與落葉，讓紙面留下如歲月沖刷的凹痕與肌理。深受老莊與禪學影響，他以數字、符號與台灣地圖等簡化元素，回到最直接的感受與觀看。

1980 年代後，他往返台灣與西班牙之間，發展出「台灣心象」系列，回應台灣解嚴後的社會變化與土地認同。921地震後，他透過「台灣站起來」系列，間接闡述台灣近代史及人民的韌性。

西班牙藝術家達比埃斯（Antoni Tàpies）曾為其紙藝撰文，作品亦曾參於瑞士巴塞爾、西班牙ARCO友博、科隆藝博與台北藝博等展出。

作品由國立台灣美術館、高雄市立美術館、新北市立美術館、屏東美術館、阿波羅畫廊等機構收藏。

阿波羅畫廊1996年起就持續推廣戴壁吟的創作。並也將於2026年的台北國際藝術博覽會上展出戴壁吟的作品。

Introduction
DAI Bih-In was born in Nanzhou, Pingtung, Taiwan, in 1946. He graduated from the Fine Arts Department of the National Academy of Arts in 1971 and studied under Tsai Shui-Lin and Yang San-Lang in his early years. In 1975, he traveled to Spain and later settled in Llers, a mountain village in Catalonia. In 1977, he was selected for the Joan Miró International Drawing Prize.

His fascination with paper began with an incident he witnessed at a construction site: a 50-kilogram bag of cement fell heavily to the ground, yet the paper sack that contained it remained completely intact. Later, while living in Spain and facing financial hardship alongside a growing awareness of environmental issues, he began making his own pulp in a stream valley, embarking on a lifelong dialogue with paper.

In traditional painting, paper serves as a passive support for pigments. In Dai’s hands, however, it becomes an active, living subject in its own right. He soaks discarded fabric and fishing nets, beats the pulp, and presses nails, ropes, and fallen leaves into its damp surface, leaving behind indentations and textures reminiscent of the marks carved by time. Deeply influenced by Daoist philosophy, particularly the teachings of Laozi and Zhuangzi, as well as Zen Buddhism, he employs simplified elements such as numbers, symbols, and maps of Taiwan to return to the most direct forms of perception and visual experience.From the 1980s onward, Dai traveled between Taiwan and Spain, developing his *Taiwanese Imagery* series in response to the social transformations following the lifting of martial law in Taiwan and questions of land and identity. After the 1999 Jiji earthquake, he created the *Taiwan Stands Up* series, indirectly reflecting on Taiwan’s modern history and the resilience of its people.
