許維忠 SHEU Wei-Jong

簡介
許維忠，1959年生於宜蘭，1981年畢業於國立臺灣藝術專科學校雕塑科，1983至1989年間留校擔任助教。解嚴之後，他辭去穩定的教職返回故鄉宜蘭，成為專業雕塑家。 求學期間即獲臺陽美展金牌獎，1984至1986年間連續於全省美展獲獎，以〈馬路施工中〉、〈魚獲上市〉等寫實群像奪得首獎，並取得「永久免審查資格」；1991年以〈空間壓力〉獲中華民國現代雕塑獎。其代表作品還包括〈耕〉、〈城市浮生〉與〈五指山〉等，並長期參與公共藝術創作，作品設置於臺北市忠孝公園、國立臺灣藝術大學與宜蘭等地。2026年於宜蘭美術館舉辦「有．影．無—許維忠雕塑個展」，在故鄉完整呈現四十餘年的創作歷程，別具意義。

許維忠認為「人體也是一種風景」。他從紮實的寫實功夫出發，早年以勞動者與地方庶民為題，其後逐漸走向變形與鏤空，透過切割、壓縮與拉伸人體結構，探討身體、靈魂與存在的狀態。對他而言，雕塑的核心在於空間、量體與肌理，而「空」與「實」同樣重要：被挖去的部分讓光影與環境得以穿透，也讓作品與觀者產生對話。

Introduction
SHEU Wei-Jong was born in 1959 in Yilan. He graduated from the Sculpture Department of the National Taiwan Academy of Arts in 1981 and stayed on as a teaching assistant from 1983 to 1989. After the lifting of martial law, he gave up his stable teaching position and returned to his hometown of Yilan to become a professional sculptor. While still a student, he won a gold medal at the Tai-Yang Art Exhibition. From 1984 to 1986 he received awards at the Taiwan Provincial Art Exhibition for three consecutive years, winning first prize with realist group sculptures such as Road Under Construction and Fish to Market, and he was granted permanent exemption from jury review. In 1991 he won the R.O.C. Modern Sculpture Award for Space Pressure. His other major works include Plowing, Floating Life in the City and Wuzhi Mountain. He has also been involved in public art for many years, with works installed at Zhongxiao Park in Taipei, the National Taiwan University of Arts and various sites in Yilan. In 2026 he held the solo exhibition Presence, Shadow, Absence: Sculptures by SHEU Wei-Jong at the Yilan Art Museum, a meaningful homecoming that presented more than four decades of his work in his hometown.

SHEU Wei-Jong believes that “the human body is also a landscape.” Building on a solid foundation in realism, he focused in his early years on laborers and ordinary local people, then gradually turned toward distortion and hollowing out, cutting, compressing and stretching the structure of the body to explore the states of body, soul and existence. For him, the essence of sculpture lies in space, volume and texture, and void matters as much as solid: the parts carved away let light, shadow and surroundings pass through, drawing the work into dialogue with the viewer.
