2023 ART TAICHUNG

Artists, through their keen observations and the reflection of their own experiences, shape unique landscapes and create unparalleled works of art. Apollo Art Gallery brings together seven artists at the LIN Hotel during ART TAICHUNG, creating an artistic space and inviting viewers to embark on an art journey here.

YEH Tung-Jinn
YEH Tung-Jinn has settled in the misty and mountainous town of Puli, where he uses oil pastels to create artworks with a unique texture and elegant colors that radiate a serene atmosphere. YEH Tung-Jinn not only paints realistic landscapes but also, in "Nowhere to Go," employs simple and bold brushstrokes to depict a solitary bird soaring in the mountain scenery. In doing so, he releases his emotions onto the canvas, elevating them to become inner landscapes.

LIN Ling-Shen
LIN Ling-Shen uses painting to record his inner aspirations and lifelong journeys. His artworks have always been imbued with an approachable, friendly, and gentle visual sensibility, allowing viewers to easily perceive his sense of beauty in the world. In "Plains Maiden Beneath Cherry Blossoms," he demonstrates his intricate realistic techniques in capturing light, shadow, color, and depth, freezing the beauty of cherry blossoms in full bloom on the canvas.

HUANG Chih-Cheng
HUANG Chih-Cheng was selected by the Ministry of Culture as the MIT Emerging Artist at the 2016 Taipei International Art Fair. He has received awards such as the Tainan New Art Award and the Kaohsiung Award. His artwork combines ink with foil materials and explores the formation of phenomena, emphasizing the ambiguity of boundaries in the natural world. In "Distant," he depicts light passing through a glass window, seemingly reaching a distant moment as it shines through the curtains.

Yabun Yuma
Yabun Yuma was selected by the Ministry of Culture as the recommended indigenous artist for the 2021 Taipei International Art Fair. As a half-Taiwanese indigenous Tayal tribe woman and hunter, her creative inspiration stems from reflections on identity, tribal culture, and ethnic relationships. She focuses on indigenous hunting culture and women's issues. In "Burst, Night!" she utilizes a hunting rifle as a medium for her artwork, aiming to document and transmit indigenous culture through her creative process.

LEE Yi-Hsuan
LEE Yi-Hsuan was selected by the Ministry of Culture as the MIT Emerging Artist at the 2021 ART TAIPEI. She uses a combination of acrylic paint, mineral pigments, and other mixed media to create artworks that showcase rich colors and layers. In "Old-Fashioned Love Song - Whispers," she draws upon her deep connection to the land and nature, having grown up on her father's farm. Through her artwork, she expresses her care and concern for the land and the natural world.

KUO Jun-You
KUO Jun-You is currently studying in the Department of Fine Arts at National Taiwan University of Arts. He has achieved first place in the school's internal faculty and student art exhibition and has participated in various art fairs, including ART TAIPEI, ART TAINAN, and One Art Taipei. His inspiration is drawn from the surrounding spatial environment of his daily life, which he combines with his own imagination. In "Open a Road with No Waves," seemingly ordinary landscapes contain illogical elements that add an element of intrigue to the artwork.

Uwe Mertsch
German artist Uwe Mertsch creates his art with the philosophy that "simplicity and minimalism are beauty." He presents clean and crisp visuals using simple and elegant lines and shapes, blending techniques from both Eastern and Western traditions in an attempt to explore the possibilities of art. In "Hope," he uses wood panels to carve lines that create a relief effect, adding visual depth. Through minimalistic lines and vibrant colors, he captures the essence of everyday scenes.
