"Landscape"
Life is like a journey, with each person experiencing different landscapes of life. Whether it's traveling to distant places, observing the everyday surroundings, or inner realizations, individuals construct imaginative landscapes within their minds. Apollo Gallery recommended 11 artists at the 2023 Taipei International Art Expo, spanning different generations - from the seasoned veterans to the middle-aged and emerging talents. Each artist employs a unique artistic vocabulary to create distinct styles of artistic landscapes. The lineup includes the late senior artist HUANG Ko-Chuan, four middle-aged artists with unique styles: Sieur TZEN, YEH Tung-Jinn, Santos HU, and HUANG We-Ying, as well as three emerging talents active in today's Taiwanese art scene: HUANG Chih-Cheng, TAENG Shih-Han, and LIU Mo-Lin. Additionally, three international artists are part of the exhibition: Yukio Takahashi from Japan, and Uwe Mertsch and Mario Weinberg from Germany. These 11 artists use various media, including ink, oil paint, gold leaf, acrylic pigments, oil pastels, collage, colored pencils, and mixed media, to express their creativity.

HUANG Ko-Chuan, The "Batik Ice Crack Painting" from the 1980s to 1990s showcases simplified landscapes and an abstract modern sensibility.Sieur TZEN, The "Street Artists" series captures the street scenes of Brooklyn and Manhattan, including graffiti on walls and street performers, documenting the urban landscape that has disappeared due to city planning. These vanishing street views are preserved solely in the works of Sieur TZEN. This year, Apollo Gallery collaborates for the first time with the fashion brand WooLeeX. Inspired by Sieur TZEN's "Street Artists," WooLeeX has created "The Neighbourhood," which will make its debut on the runway during Taipei Fashion Week from October 11 to October 15.YEH Tung-Jinn, Using oil pastels as the creative medium and drawing inspiration from the mountainous landscapes in central Taiwan, the artist presents the "Sounds of the Mountains" series, showcasing the spiritual landscapes of these mountains. The exhibition features the artist's latest works, each capturing the essence and beauty inspired by the mountainous scenery in Taiwan's central region.Santos HU, The artworks incorporate surrealistic elements, and this year's new pieces utilize vibrant and colorful palettes along with a splattered brushstroke effect to convey a contrast between light and dark, movement and stillness, realism, and abstraction.HUANG Wen-Ying, As one of the representatives of textile art in Taiwan, this artist ingeniously incorporates two types of imagery into the woven fabric. One depicts a realistic forest landscape, while the other presents an abstract composition.HUANG Chih-Cheng, The new works from the "Distant" series use foil as the creative medium. By allowing light to pass through glass windows, screens, and curtains, the artist presents a mysterious and dreamy scene beyond the window.TSENG Shih-HanThe exhibited works from the "Light" series attempt to use the layering of translucent colors to depict the medium of pastels, creating minute particles that resemble flashes of light. These particles traverse the realms of the inner self and imagination.LIU Mo-Lin, The artist employs traditional ink techniques such as wrinkles, rubbing, dotting, and dyeing, infused with Western foundational aesthetics. The result is artwork that, when viewed from a distance, depicts animal silhouettes, and up close, reveals landscape paintings.Yukio TakahashiThe artist uses colored pencils to depict various charming poses and expressions of cats, capturing their endearing personalities and features.Uwe Mertsch, By employing the collage technique and diverse materials such as acrylic, ink, wood, paper, and fabric, the artist creates relief-like new pop art pieces.Mario Weinberg, Using epoxy resin as a base and incorporating techniques like flat painting, thick painting, freehand, graffiti, and collage, the artist presents abstract works with tension and expressive qualities.
