About Apollo Art Gallery

Apollo Art Gallery was established in October 1978. During the 1970s, the gallery invited several esteemed veteran artists such as Liao Chi-chun, Lee Mei-shu, Lee Tze-Fan, Chen Chin, Lin Yu shan, KUO Hsueh-Hu, Li Shih-Chiao, Chang Wan-Chuan, Hung Jui-ling, Chen Te-Wang, Hsu Shen-Chou, Max Liu, and others to exhibit their works. They presented their art using various techniques, including oil painting, watercolor, ink wash painting, pastels, and gouache.

In the 1980s, Apollo Art Gallery showcased Ma Bai-Shu's ink wash paintings, and also held the first-ever solo exhibition of senior artist Hsiao Ju-Sung's lifetime. In May 1989, the gallery organized a joint exhibition titled "Ishikawa Kinichiro and His Disciples," which featured the oil paintings of the late Chen Cheng-Po. In the following June, they presented the "Ink Sketch Exhibition of Paris Women" by San Yu. While paying tribute to the senior artists, Apollo Art Gallery also promoted contemporary art by curating exhibitions of works by modern artists, including Yuyu Yang, Ju Ming, Shiy De-Jinn, Chao Chung-Hsiang, Chiang Han-Tung, Lin Sien-Mo, Gu Bing-Sing, Hsiao Chin, Tan Choh-Tee, Siew Hock-Meng, Chen Jia-Rhon, Lee Yi-Hong, Chiang Ming-Shyan, Sheu Kuen-Cherng, Wang Shou-Ying, HSI Mu-Ren, Lo Tsen, and others. This provided these artists with a platform to showcase their talent and gain attention in the art world.

In the 1990s, Chang Chin-Hsing, the founder of Apollo Art Gallery, was elected as the first chairman of the Gallery Association in Taiwan. He was actively involved in establishing Taiwan's first gallery exposition, known as ART TAIPEI. This exposition has become the longest-running art fair in Asia. In 1992, he successfully facilitated an exhibition of Taiwanese artists' works at the Vienna National Humanities Museum in Austria. Artists like Chang Ping-Nan, Hou Chin-Lang, Ting Walasse, Sieur Tzen, Hilo Chen, Li Zong-Xiang, Huang Chao-mo, Kuo Ching-Chih, Dai Bih-In, Chen Cheng-Hong, Yim Yee-King, Lee Wan-Chuan, Santos Hu, Lin Ling-Shen, Huang Chiou-Yue, and others became the backbone of the gallery scene. Additionally, digital artists have been consistently invited to top international art fairs such as Art Basel in Switzerland and ARCO in Madrid for several years.

Starting from the year 2000, several artists entered the gallery scene, including Han Hsiang-Ning, Liu Yang- Che, Shih Ching-Hui, Fan Zhen-Jin, Liou Chen-Chou, Shudan, Gottfried Kumpf, Chen Shu-Hwa, Yeh Tung-Jinn, Uwe Mertsch, Takahashi Yukio, Yeh Chu-Sheng, Kao Yung-Chung, Mario Weinberg, and Yosifu. To extend art education to collectors and provide better services, Apollo Art Gallery began planning a series of courses on Taiwanese and Western art history and art appreciation, as well as organizing European art trips. In 2012, Mr. Chang's daughter, Miss Chang Kaidi, took over as the head of the gallery. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Applied Arts Vienna and serves as an adjunct assistant professor at the National Taiwan University of Arts. She has actively promoted the integration of the art industry with academia. Besides bringing high-quality art into university spaces, such as the Tamkang University Wen-Chi Art Center and the Taipei University Art and Culture Exhibition Area, to enhance artistic appreciation, she also offers annual internship opportunities for Taipei University students in curating and exhibition planning. This helps train art management talents, allowing students to experience the work environment and accumulate work experience while still in college. Moreover, due to recognition and cooperation from various industries, Apollo Art Gallery successfully promotes the concept of a "mobile gallery," showcasing recommended artists and artworks in spaces beyond traditional galleries. Collaborations with invited partners have included HTC headquarters, Dadaocheng Art Center, Wan Arts Center, Sijhuang Theater, Taipei Big Travel, Taiwan Business Bank headquarters, The One Nanyuan, and Taipei Zhongshan.

In recent years, Apollo Gallery has actively participated in international art fairs both domestically and abroad, including Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Cologne, Berlin, Frankfurt, Prague, Shanghai, Chengdu, Nanjing, Gwangju, and Jeju. This has provided more opportunities for Taiwanese artists to be seen on the international stage.

To support outstanding young artistic creators in Taiwan and assist them in smoothly entering the art market, Apollo Art Gallery has been organizing the "Starry Fruit Generation - Apollo Art Gallery Emerging Artists Nurturing Program" since 2014, as well as collaborating with the O-Bank Education Foundation to hold the "Compose Taiwan: Go to Taiwan - Visual Arts Selection Event." The nurtured emerging artists include LIU Chun-Chun, CHANG Ban-Yuan, CHEN Ting-Chun, HUANG Fa-Cheng, LU Jyun-Han, FAN Chiao-Ling, HUANG Yu-Chu, HUNG Shih-Cheng, LIN Yu-Wen, TSENG Shih-Han, WANG Wen, LIN Yu-Ju, LEE Yi-Hsuan, WU Chien-Hsing, WANG Yu-Shiang, LIU Mo-Lin, HUANG Yan-Jun, LIN Huan-Chia, CHIU Ling-Lin, HUANG Chih-Cheng, Yabun Yuma ( CHIANG Pei-Shan), and CHAO Fu-Le, among others.

Starting in 2017, Apollo Art Gallery expanded its presence in southern Taiwan's historical and cultural town of Hengchun, adjacent to the East Gate, with the establishment of a second gallery space named "Hunhau" This move actively promotes the artistic ecosystem in southern Taiwan!
