"Walking on the path of art, a blink of an eye, and more than half a century has passed. During this time, I have witnessed various shifts in the art world—abstract, figurative, indigenous, international, new and old styles, modern, postmodern, and the E-generation. As age catches up, I find myself becoming indifferent to these trends. Instead, an inner voice often resonates within me, asking, 'Who am I?' ‘Return to Nature, Refine Oneself through Nature’ is the affirmation I found within. My mentor, Wu Mei-Ling, never grew tired of painting landscapes and birds. Similarly, Zhang Yi-Xiong’s strength lies in depicting familiar still-life subjects and transforming them through his artistic expression. What my mentors revered was none other than nature. By engaging with nature and the familiar elements in life, they elevated their spirits to a higher state, even to the level of unity between humans and the cosmos. Compared to nature, human beings are not so grand—after all, we are but a part of nature. Therefore, by listening to the voice of nature, understanding what it seeks to convey, and ultimately uniting with it, we can reach the highest realm of spiritual fulfillment. This is what we should strive for with unwavering effort."
