YEH Tung-Jinn is both a rational mathematics teacher and a sensitive art creator. Although he did not receive formal training, he has developed a unique style through innate talent and diligent effort. Drawing inspiration from the landscapes of the central mountainous region of Taiwan, he infuses his artwork with profound meaning. Through simple compositions and elegant color palettes, he narrates his life experiences.
The inspiration for my artwork often comes from nature, especially mountains. I use oil pastels as my medium, creating a unique texture on the canvas. The colors I use are elegant and exude a sense of freshness. My compositions are simple, radiating a sense of tranquility. Many of my recent works, including the "Sounds of the Mountains" series, feature mountain landscapes as the subject. However, what stands out more is the depiction of the horizon. Boldly dividing the canvas in half, I create vast plains or sandy beaches, where the sky meets the sea, offering a sense of boundless openness and clarity. YEH Ting-Jinn graduated with a degree in mathematics from National Taiwan Normal University and worked as a math teacher. After retiring, He settled in the mountains of Puli, Taiwan, and devoted myself to artistic creation. While mathematics and art may seem like vastly different fields, he believe that both involve the creation of the soul, and they can harmoniously blend together. The drifting clouds in the mountains, the moonlight reflecting its shimmer, and the solitary birds standing amidst it all – these are elements I portray with oil pastels. Upon closer examination, my artwork reveals the inner landscapes that transcend reality, evoking a sense of inner tranquility.
