The landscape of the heart's desire

Artist. HOU Chin-Lang.YEH Tung-Jinn.LIN Ling-Shen
Exhibition Area | Special Exhibition Room on the 1st Floor
Opening | Tue-Sun 9:00-21:00 (Closed on Mon)

Three Taiwanese artists, each influenced by different historical contexts and personal life trajectories, have their unique interpretations of "landscape," which have led to distinct creative methods. Their works not only capture the scenery before them but also embody their emotions towards the land. Hou Chin-Lang's scenes are drawn from his surroundings in the suburbs of Paris, where he lived for over thirty years. His painting style is deeply influenced by the 19th-century French Impressionists and the 20th-century Fauves. Through his uniquely colored landscape paintings, he expresses his deep longing for his homeland and its people. This exhibition features Hou Chin-Lang's landscape and still life paintings completed in France in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Yeh Tung-Jinn often seeks inspiration in the mountains of central Taiwan. However, the mountain scenes he creates with oil pastels are not realistic depictions but inner landscapes that emerge after spiritual reflection and detachment from worldly desires. His simple compositions exude a sense of tranquility. This exhibition primarily showcases Yeh Tung-Jinn's works from the past decade. Lin Ling-Shen uses a photorealistic style and flat oil painting techniques to depict the beautiful scenery of Taiwan and lifelike flowers. He masterfully captures the bright light on the canvas, making each painting radiate a sense of youthfulness.

To discover and support talented Taiwanese artists, facilitating their successful entry into the art market, Apollo Art Gallery has organized the "Young & Top" exhibition annually since 2014. This platform highlights young artists' artistic talents, injecting fresh vitality into the art scene continuously. "Young & Top" phonetically echoes "Young & Top" in English, symbolizing youthfulness and excellence, while starfruit is a representative fruit of Taiwan. Thus, Apollo Art Gallery named this program "Young & Top" to reflect these qualities. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of "Young & Top," artists who have participated over the years are specially invited to showcase their works in two spaces on the second floor of Taipei City Arts Promotion Office.

The fourteen invited artists each present their creations through different media and with distinct philosophies.Huang Fa-Cheng uses acrylic paint to explore environmental issues and the contradictions between nature and civilized society. Chao Fu-Le deconstructs urban and architectural forms into clean, crisp lines and geometric shapes. Yabun Yuma incorporates Atayal hunting culture into his work. Huang Yu-Chu creates during the night, using ink and glue paint to depict dreamlike scenes. Hung Shih-Cheng, who traveled to Tibet, observed how power towers affect traditional local life. Lee Yi-Hsuan, who grew up on a farm, expresses care for the land and familial affection in her work. Wang Wen uses lacquer as a medium, with peacocks symbolizing blessings at different stages. Tseng Shih-Han uses delicate brushstrokes with glue paint to narrate stories of her inner state. Lin Yu-Wen employs acrylics to create textures and colors that express emotions in an abstract style. Chang Ban-Yuan explores the formation of the body and the power of imagery in contemporary technology through abstraction. Liu Mo-Lin presents traditional ink art with a contemporary perspective, focusing on the interaction between nature and the city. Yen Yu-Chi merges different entities into a harmonious new appearance, adapting to various environments. Huang Yan-Jun uses electronic components and LED lights to create images of modern metropolitan nightlife. "Ohne Angabe"

Artist. Uwe Mertsch.Mario Weinberg
Exhibition Area. 2nd Floor, Room C
Opening. Tue-Sun 9:00-17:00 (Closed on Mon)

Two artists from Germany each present their creations in an abstract expressionist style. Without sketches or predefined steps, these artists do not adhere to any formal specifications. Beyond colors and lines on the canvas, viewers may find it challenging to connect the artwork to any identifiable real-world objects. However, this moment is precisely what the artists aim to express—the spontaneity driven by inspiration, freely dancing with brushes or spreading paint on the canvas. A dazzling painting is thus born from this process. The exhibition titled "無規格 Ohne Angabe" translates to "Without Specification Ohne Angabe," playing on the Chinese characters "無" (without) and "格" (specification) found in the artists' Chinese names. This title also reflects their unique painting styles.
