During the Japanese colonial period, art exhibitions were dominated by the "Taiwan Art Exhibition" and the "Taiyang Art Exhibition." However, a group of passionate and idealistic young artists who had returned from studying in Japan felt that the review and exhibition standards were too restrictive.
Apollo Art Gallery, in tribute to Taiwan's senior artists, holds an annual "Passing the Torch" exhibition series. This year, in celebration of the 85th anniversary of MOUVE Art Society, they are showcasing the works of seven members. Among these artists are HUNG Jui-Ling, CHEN Te-Wang, CHANG Wan-Chuan, LU Chi-Cheng, and others. Apollo Art Gallery has previously organized solo and group exhibitions featuring these artists. HUNG Jui-Ling, who personally experienced the life of miners, showcases his experiences in the mines in the painting "Miner." CHEN Te-Wang, who dedicated his life to the study of light, shadow, and color, uses oil paint to create a piece with a rich sense of light and soft tones titled "Tamsui River Estuary." CHANG Wan-Chuan exhibits a piece titled "Guitar and Flowers" that features vibrant colors and bold lines, reflecting elements of the Fauvist style. The landscape artist LU Chi-Cheng uses unique brushstrokes with rich textures to depict the majestic mountains of Taiwan in "Lishan Dawn." HUANG Ching-Cheng's sculpture of "Beethoven" showcases his distinctive style, preserving the marks of the sculpting process and presenting a unique texture. Additionally, his oil paintings are also on display. CHEN Chun-Te employs ink washes and simple lines to outline "Autumn Scenery in the Heavy Ranges." HSIEH Kuo-Yung's "Nude" employs subdued tones and conveys a contemplative atmosphere, capturing the thoughtful expression of a woman. This exhibition series serves as a platform to pay tribute to these artists and their contributions to the world of art.
We extend special thanks to the families of the artists and the collectors for their generous support. We will be hosting an opening reception and discussion forum on July 1st, and we sincerely invite you to join us for the opportunity to appreciate the artwork!
